Why Pet Ramps are Worth It

Pet Ramps

pet ramps are very useful items for helping a pet get into a car, truck, boat or poolside. Some are also made to assist a pet get onto furniture or up short stairs.

While choosing a ramp there are some important decision and considerations involved such as animal size, ramp cost, storage space, and the intended use. There are generally three types of ramps; here are they:

Vehicle Ramp

Car ramps are also divided into two kinds, One is fixed/folding which is strong and solid ramp, sometimes with 1 or more folding points. This is normally used when extra storage is required with a truck or van. Its benefit is that it is less costly and has few;if any, moving parts; But it takes up more space and is to handle for one person. Another is telescoping ramp, which is packed together, normally shrinking down to a much smaller size. It is much more easier to use by single person and takes up less storage space but is costs more.

Pool & Boat Ramp

There are a large variety of pet ramps in stores and in addition to allowing your pet leisure access to and from the water, they can be a pets’ lifesaver. Most people highly support all pet owners who have water rights to use (pool or lake) and install one of these, it just may save your pets life. They come in three types: The first type is floating water ramp . These are made for pets to help them to get out of the water onto a swimming pool deck or dock.

It is more simple for the pet because the climb is generally gradual. However, they are more expensive and less durable. Second you have the Fixed ramp , which is simply added to the side of the pool and rested into the water. They allow dogs (or other animals) to easily climb up and get out of the water. It is more durable as well and less expensive. It is also able to withstand strong weather conditions so it can be left outdoors when when it is not being used. But sometimes more difficult for your pet to use. Third one is Ladder, there are a couple of pool/boat ladders on the market for pets, but the ramps are generally easier for most pets to handle.

Ramps for Furniture

There are very few ramps for stairs and furniture in stores, many are quite innovative. They fall into two kinds of pet furniture ramps:

Gradual Ramp – It provides a longer slope for your lovely pet to climb onto bed, onto furniture, or up stairs. It is large for stairs and any other areas that make it easier for the pets. But many take up more space than the stair styles.

Steps – Provide a diminutive set of steps for your pet to scramble onto the furniture or bed .It is better as it takes less space but may not be appropriate for older animals that have physical ailments such as arthritis. Also, there is at least one manufacturer that makes a combination ramp/steps that can easily be switched to both.

How To Choose?

When choosing a pet ramp, owners must search for the easiness of handling, small and light weight will save work. You should take care of the safety as the ramp must not cause pets to slip when in use, make certain that the ramp has anti slip grips so that your pet would not slip while walking on the ramp. Storage depends on your situation, but keep in mind that the ramp will most likely need to be put away when when it isn’t being used.

With all kinds of steps or ramps, make certain that you purchase the correct size for your pets which sholdn’t be too small and it may be unstable with your pets weight. Ramps that are too large will cost more, weigh more and need more space.
